Frequently Asked Questions
We don't claim to know everything, but we try
How do I get my mail?
You can use webmail or use a POP3/IMAP client with authentication such as Outlook or Entourage. Your email address and password will log you in to either. You must configure your client to authenticate for sending as well.
Please note that you must configure your outgoing name and address and test it before using your account for the first time.
Why are your prices so low?
A lot of people wonder why our prices are so low. We keep our prices this low because we're not here to make a living off of hosting your site. Our fees are designed only to cover the costs of operation (colocation, hardware and administration costs), not make a profit.
There are no cut corners at TCBands. Many low-cost hosters keep their profit margin fat by using sub-standard hardware, or ill-equipped bandwidth sources like DSL.
Not TCBands.
We use open source software on quality Intel hardware and we host from a managed colocation facility in downtown St. Paul. You get all the power and reliability you expect from huge hosting companies like redundant internet connections and backup power, but for a much lower price. That's why TCBands rocks.
All we want to do is provide other musicians and music-industry people with a low-cost reliable service so you can continue to focus on being productive. We know it sounds too good to be true, but ask any of our clients and they'll tell you it's not. We guarantee that you'll love us.
What do I need to do to set up a website?
Several things need to happen before you can get online:
1) Register a domain. You can use us or any other regisrar. Whoever you get your domain through, you should never pay more than $10-$15.
When you register your domain, you must specify which Domain Name Servers your domain should use. You should enter:
ns1.tcbands.com
ns2.tcbands.com
Changes can take up to 24 hours to take effect, so please be patient.
2) Choose a hosting provider. Your hosting provider will give you space for the files that make up your website. Assuming you use us, we'll contact you with your account information after you place your order, hold onto this information for dear life, you'll need it again and again.
3) Upload the content of your webpage. Your default page (what is served when someone first visits your page) should be named index.html. When you FTP to the server, you must specify your path. This is typically: /domains/yoursite.com/public_html/
4) Enjoy your new website!
Do you host non-music websites as well?
Absolutely. Please check our our plans and find the one that best suits your needs. If you have special needs, let us know and we'll take care of you.
How reliable is your service?
Well, no one can predict the future, but we've been in business since 2001 and historically we've had a better than 99.99% uptime. We have many layers of redundancy built into our service, so your website is safe from the minor technical glitches that sometimes arise in the fast-paced world of the internet.
